Winning ‘Best Urban Act’ at the Unsigned Music Awards (applications for 2018 open soon, check here for more information) and getting nominated for a ‘Get Rated’ Award at GRM Daily’s Rated Awards last year, rapper Mugun has kickstarted his musical journey and was promply named as ‘one to watch’.
In order to make 2017 even more successful, the Grime MC has spent a lot of time in the studio this year so far. The final result will be released in form of an EP – titled The Sweetest Ting EP – including the track Run Dem, produced by highly-anticipated producer Nyge (New Gen).
But for now, the Coventry-based artist has shared his brand new track The Sweetest Ting with us. Does the title sound familiar to you? Well, that is because Mugun has used the instrumentals of R&B queen Lauryn Hill‘s old school classic The Sweetest Thing. What a cheeky way to adjust the song title! 🙂
“The Sweetest Ting is kind of like a diary if you get me… An expression of all the excessive paranoid thoughts you get whilst trying to push your teenage love affair to the next level but also at same time trying to survive through all the incidents and mistakes it takes to be a man in our day and age” – Mugun
An ode to teenage love and angst on the block, the lyrics are deeply looking into a common issue among the youth.
Delivering his effortless, thoroughly skilled rap flow, Mugun‘s reproduction of such an ageless song created a supremely fresh and new vibe without a doubt.
Keep an eye out for more projects to be unveiled soon!
