Wow move spent ten out of the past 17ish years in here . Just to lyke I'm not proud of it. I'm just going to say this jail was never like this dr.potee has done an amazing job addressing the drug problem in this county when people get locked up….and they have realized alot of it is because of addiction…and WE…myself included need the support instead of just locking us up and giving us minimal treatment….I commend dr.potee and sheriff donelan for what they have done to transform this facility

Most of these men talking to the camera were probably toward the end of their stay, and shouldn't be faulted for trying to say what they wanted to hear, I'd be desperate to get out too.

That jail is good helping addicts,its not just locking them up,its trying to rehab them out of that heroin habit n bring back a bit of normality before they r released,that is great need a lot more jails like this

Shit at least some jails are doing something my county jail you get aspirin if your lucky and told deal with it smh…yes there criminals and did wrong but there humans and most heroine addicts do stuff cause of that drug so and if you don’t treat that problem it won’t be solved. People need to wake up.
My sister is an addict in okc and just got out back in jail for unpaid fines for drug use! She has been on drugs hard drugs Iv since 12 years old and she’s 34 now please help me get her the help she needs mental health help she needs this type of setting please please please help me
It's not a substance use disorder, it's being addicted to drugs. Quit trying to change something by calling it something else.
this place is legendary. this is how you lead by example.
They said they give them doses of opoids to make them "deal with their cravings" and be "functional". They don't know that the smallest amount usually instantly cause death.
Exactly I have 10 years clean off heroin. You need a reason to live and keep moving forward. Having a sense of direction and a purpose in life is critical for recovering from this addiction. Most addicts feel like they have nothing to live for other then to get high.
Wow this is a very important way of treating addiction. Teaching officers is a great idea and more important treating addicts like people not monsters.

I love this so much. Prison is not a place for addicts. They can not get the help they need in prison. I hope all prisons end up like this one day.

May be if they start yoga classes the hindu way which is difficult and not the modern yoga wid pranayam breathing techniques they will clear toxins and brain wd get re wired! Stay blessed jay shri ram !

Greenfield, Mass is no where near as bad as Holyoke and Springfield, Mass.! Regardless, I commend folks that incorporate treatment programs into prison systems.
I hate how every problem is an "epidemic" nowadays. People like to get high. People die from all types of reasons…including chasing a high. I'm not saying this isn't an "issue"…I just think it is an issue inherent to human nature. There will always be people getting high. Sometimes that leads to a hardcore addiction in which some get out of and some don't. As a society I think we should offer support not only through rehabs and stuff like that but also accepting that this is normal. In a lot of ways society contributes to the hellish lifestyles of an addict. Get arrested for possession and your life is significantly hampered. There is too much demonization of drugs as if they are this evil boogeyman… Calling potentially threatening or negative thing an "epidemic" just reinforces the drug war and all its harmful effects.

Who is the lady teaching the class? I need to talk to this woman and see if she can come to my hometown. I have an overwhelming want to raise awareness and bring this to my area. I'm a regular person. I have no idea how I'm going to do this but I think this is GREAT!

Imagine if they did this sort of thing during the crack epidemic instead of pushing more cocaine into the market to help fund the contras.
I Dont understand , i have heard about Talibans ( mean relugious Students ) were the bad guys , but Taliban never liked Opium and they used justify because was bad for heath and they cuted the production of puppies . Later USA invaded Afganistan , CIA took care and now , we get records every day in producing puppies and Europe and USA fullfiled with Heroin So i ask , who are the bad guys then ? All jails should offer this amazing! Doctors need to be held responsible also for over prescribing and then when they get worried cutting people off without weaning them off!

Decriminalize opiates by Nation, pass out the narcan or suboxone etc. by County.
When it gets this far gone cant we all agree Cannabis has a favorable effect on this horrific dependence addiction, managed by county also. Let's save as many of us as we can people.
